Method

  1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius

  2. In a large bowl, mix together beef mince, bread crumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.

  3. Shape into 3cm balls.

  4. Place meatballs on a baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 20 minutes in the oven, or until browned.

  6. Slice long rolls in half length-wise and place on a separate baking sheet.

  7. Spread each with tomato passata.

  8. Top with meatballs and mozzarella cheese.

  9. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until buns are toasted and cheese is melted. Garnish with basil and serve.

  • 6 long rolls
  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato passata or pasta sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 handful of fresh basil leaves
