Chocolate Chip Cookies

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, dissolve the baking soda in hot water and then add it to the batter.
  5. Gradually mix in the salt and flour to the batter.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and the chopped nuts (if using).
  7. Using a spoon, drop large dollops of cookie dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Tie up batches with string to give away as gifts!


  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons hot water

  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
