Lunar New Year is a time for family to come together and enjoy amazing food. But not everyone is an experienced cook! That’s why we’ve put together some of our favourite recipes that are perfect for celebrating Lunar New Year in style. From traditional dumplings to braised pork, these recipes will have your family and friends savouring each delicious bite.

 

  • One of the most popular Lunar New Year dishes is dumplings. There are many variations, but the basic recipe includes minced pork or beef, carrots, onions, garlic, scallions, ginger and Chinese cabbage wrapped in a thin wheat flour dough. Serve these pocket-sized treats with soy sauce and chili paste for a delicious start to your Lunar New Year feast.
  • Braised pork is another classic Lunar New Year dish that’s sure to be a hit. To make it, season cubed pork shoulder with garlic, ginger, five-spice powder and Shaoxing wine before simmering in a broth of soy sauce, sugar and star anise. Serve this flavourful pork dish over steamed white rice for a complete meal.
  • Peking duck is an iconic dish originating from Beijing, China. To make this tasty dish, a whole duck is seasoned with a mixture of spices such as cinnamon and star anise before being roasted in an oven until golden and crispy. When served, the duck is carved tableside and accompanied by traditional accompaniments such as hoisin sauce, cucumber slices and steamed pancakes for a delicious and unforgettable meal. 
  • Egg tarts are a sweet, creamy and delicious treat that make a great addition to any Lunar New Year feast. To make them, line muffin tins with pre-made puff pastry dough and fill each cup with a custard made of eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla extract. Bake for about 15 minutes until the edges are golden and the custard is set. Serve warm with a sprinkle of icing sugar for an extra special treat.
