Young Employee of the Year Hails from FoodWorks Canungra
Candice Wright from FoodWorks Canungra was awarded The Penny Chambers – Young Employee of the Year at the annual FoodWorks Store Awards during the FoodWorks National Conference in Hamilton Island, Whitsundays.
This award is named in honour of Penny Chambers, a vibrant, vivacious 21 year old girl whose life was tragically cut short during the bushfires that ravaged Kinglake in Victoria on Black Saturday, 7 February 2009.
Following the Victorian bushfires, FoodWorks retailers, Support Office staff and employees rallied together to raise funds for the victims, with a contribution of these funds being set aside to recognise a young FoodWorks team member who embodies the attributes that Penny is fondly remembered for: a vibrant community spirit, passionate about her work and customers, and her zest for life.
According to store owner Tony Nguyen, “The Penny Chambers Award is a strong testament to all the hard work Candice has put in to make FoodWorks Canungra the best it can be for our customers.” Candice is a well-known and much loved team member at FoodWorks Canungra. She is delightful in nature whilst interacting with our customers; she is very social and proactive in the community. Almost everyone in the local community knows her from the various community activities she is involved in.”
According to Rachael Hobbs, FoodWorks Marketing Manager, “The award recognises Candice’s passion for the FoodWorks brand and her commitment to caring about the community, caring for customers, and caring about the job she does.”
Candice hopes to one day own her own FoodWorks Supermarket, and shows great determination in her pursuit. Since 2011 Candice has obtained a CERT IV in Retail Management, Forklift Driver's License, Food Safety Supervisory Certificate, and her First Aid Officer Certificate.
Candice’s store is FoodWorks Canungra, located at 14 Christie Street, Canungra and is open every day from 6am to 8pm.
